What Is a Doomsday Prepper?

With more attention being paid to the prepping movement thanks to shows like National Geographic's Doomsday Preppers, many people ask me if all preppers are so radical.
The short answer is that all preppers (as if I can speak for all of them) would be so radical if they had the time and money! Our Grandparents Were Preppers! Our grandparents would be considered preppers.
They had food stored up, canned from their own gardens.
They lived through the Great Depression and knew what it was like to go hungry, so they were careful to have food stockpiled.
Today, when we are hungry, we just go to a drive through and get more calories in one meal than most people in the world eat in a whole day.
We are very vulnerable to any situation that would cause the grocery stores to be empty, which could happen in a matter of hours.
Nobody from "the greatest generation" could relate to our fast food, convenience lifestyle where we didn't have food and supplies stocked up.
Prepping is a Lifestyle Prepping isn't' something that you just do.
It's a way of life.
Prepping is an attitude that says 'I want to know that no matter what happens, I can make it without a government handout.
' Preppers think about food, water, medicine and all sorts of supplies.
But most importantly, preppers are not just focused on doomsday.
They realize that their own personal doomsday could be unemployment, a hurricane or a supply chain interruption that causes short-term or long-term food shortages.
While preppers have a lot of supplies in their homes, the best ones are also prepared even when they are away from home.
Think about it, when you are away from home, you are most vulnerable because all of your prepping supplies and equipment is back there.
