    • 1). Turn the BlackBerry Curve face down, press the release button on the battery cover and slide the cover off of the phone. Pull up on the battery to remove it. Wait a few seconds, then re-install the battery. The Curve will power up on its own. If a software glitch was causing the trackball to malfunction, it will be fixed.

    • 2). Go to the "Screen/Keyboard" settings on the Options menu, if your trackball works but it is just sticking. Scroll down to the "Trackball" settings. Change the sensitivity setting to "100" and see if that corrects the problem.

    • 3). Remove the BlackBerry Curve's battery. Insert the small, flat-head screwdriver between the silver ring surrounding the trackball and the Curve's front housing. Pull up gently to pop the ring free. Do the same on the other side of the ring. When two of the three retaining clips are free, pull up on the ring to remove it. Turn the Curve over and the trackball will drop out.

    • 4). Dip your brush in alcohol and clean the exposed area in the BlackBerry Curve that was previously occupied by the trackball. Clean the trackball with alcohol as well.

    • 5). Position the trackball so that the four plastic tabs are pointing to the left and right, then drop it into the recessed opening. Push the silver ring back in place and re-install the battery. When the BlackBerry boots up, test the trackball and see if cleaning it did the trick.

    • 6). Repeat the above procedure to remove the trackball and replace it with a new one if it is still giving you problems. Any trackball from an 81xx, 83xx or 88xx series BlackBerry device will work.
