Interview With Fashion Blogger Vanessa Balli of OOTD
Vanessa Balli is one of the newest bloggers on the scene, and she's already making waves with her casual yet glam SoCal style. Recently, she took time out from updating her blog, OOTD, to give us some insight on her style, what trends she loves, and how she keeps her hair so healthy and thick! Keep reading for the low down.
Teen Fashion: What sets your style apart from other personal style bloggers?
Vanessa Balli: My style ranges depending on my mood, so it can be anything from chic to modern, bohemian or rocker.
I incorporate personal items from my closet that range in price and I try and take a twist on styles I see on the street, runway or my favorite celebrities. I find inspiration everywhere!
Teen Fashion: What inspired you to start your blog?
Vanessa Balli: I started my blog as a creative outlet to express my love of fashion, extensive collection of clothes and to share with women as motivation for putting outfits and looks together. I have friends and family ask me all the time where I got something or advice on what would look good together so I thought why not share my passion with everyone I could.
Teen Fashion: What are some of your favorite boutiques that you must visit in your area or when you go shopping?
Vanessa Balli: A few of my favorite local boutiques in San Diego are Vocabulary Boutique, Capricorn Boutique and Mimi & Red. Not only do I adore the women who own these boutiques but I also love the clothes they carry. Their styles are all different and I love adding variety to my wardrobe.
Also the accessories are to die for!
Teen Fashion: What is your favorite outfit that you've posted so far?
Vanessa Balli: One of my favorite outfits that I've posted so far is probably one of my more simple looks. I am wearing cuffed denim jeans, a black tank, wedges and accessorized with silver jewelry, a black fedora and a nautical striped bag. This look is effortlessly chic and adding a striped crossbody bag pulled the look together without being over the top. It was comfortable and eye catching all at the same time.
Teen Fashion: You have a knack for finding amazing, affordable pieces; what should girls look for to get the most out of their budget?
Vanessa Balli: I always look for pieces that can be worn with multiple outfits and in many different ways. Also, pieces that can be carried into different seasons. I love following trends, but trends are just that, they come and go, so make sure not to splurge on pieces you'll only wear once, but spending a little more on key pieces like a pair of black riding boots, a leather jacket or a pair of jeans are worth it.
Teen Fashion: You're opening a boutique in the near future; what kind of styles can we expect?
Vanessa Balli: I am currently in the process of turning my passion and dream into a reality by opening my own boutique. The styles you can expect to find will be trendy, chic, fashionable and most importantly affordable pieces that are inspired by the runway, fashion magazines, and celebrity styles.
Teen Fashion: What fall trends do you love and which do you hate?
Vanessa Balli: My favorite fall trends this year are skull bracelets, spiked shoes, ankle boots, army jackets and big oversized bags from the likes of Chloe.
Teen Fashion: Do you have any favorite moments or looks from NYFW Spring/Summer '13?
Vanessa Balli: I would wear every pieces from Rachel Zoe's collection. It was perfection! I would have loved to see Victoria Beckham's show, her collection was very well put together and yet had a relaxed feel to it, which is different from her previous collection. Charlotte Ronson, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Fotini had some really beautiful pieces that I loved for spring.
Teen Fashion: Your hair is amazing, how do you keep it so thick and healthy?
Vanessa Balli: Thank you. I make sure to get it trimmed every 4-6 weeks and I also wash it with sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. I also like to use a moisturizing mask once a week to keep it soft and shiny. If you use a lot of heat on your hair like I do with blow drying, curling and straightening make sure to use a heat protectant before styling. It will save your hair from looking dull and dry.
Teen Fashion: What new pieces have you picked up for fall that we haven't seen on the blog yet?)
Vanessa Balli: I have so many fun sweaters, leggings, ankle boots, colored denim, scarfs, cardigans and jackets that I am just dying to break out once the weather starts to cool down. Fall is by far my favorite time of year for fashion!
