How to Iron a Navy Uniform

    • 1). Wash your uniform in warm water to cleanse it and prepare it for ironing. Turn it inside out to keep color in the garments lasting as long as possible. This will also help you save time when you begin ironing.

    • 2). Place the uniform in the dryer, and adjust heat settings to the most appropriate for the uniform.

    • 3). Remove the uniform from the dryer, and make sure the top (jumper) and trousers are still inside out.

    • 4). Place the jumper on the ironing board, and unfold the collar flap so it is extended out and away from the shirt. Fold the shirt in half, and match up the right sleeve with the left. Make sure all sleeve and waist hems are evenly matched up.

    • 5). Smooth the crease that runs down the length of the jumper back. Place a slightly damp cloth or sheet on the crease, and begin to iron with a medium heat setting. Move the damp cloth along with the iron down the length of the crease. The cloth will protect the uniform from excess heat while creating a steamed effect for a crisp ironing effect.

    • 6). Iron the entire shirt after making the crease, moving from the tips of the collar down to the waistband of the shirt. Create a crease in the shirt sleeves by once again placing the damp cloth along the sleeves and ironing from the armhole seam down to the cuffs.

    • 7). Fold the two sides of the collar so the edges meet in the center crease, and iron each of those creases with the damp cloth.

    • 8). Turn the jumper back to the right side, and hang on a wooden hanger to help keep the shape of your uniform.

    • 9). Lay the trousers flat on the ironing board, and make sure they are still turned inside out and line up the seams. Make sure the waistband and hems are completely even. Using the damp cloth, iron from the waistband of the trousers down to the hems, creating a crisp crease on the outside seams of the trousers.
