How to Make a Chair Cover

    • 1). Place the butcher paper on the floor. Lay the back of the chair on the paper then trace the outline of the chair back. Add 1 inch to all sides of the pattern you just created to allow for seam allowances and for the width of the chair back. You'll need to add more than an inch all the way around if the chair is upholstered or extra thick. Cut out the pattern piece.

    • 2). Use the pattern piece to calculate how many yards of fabric you'll need to purchase, factoring in the number of chairs you plan to cover. Keep in mind that you'll need to cut two pieces of fabric for each chair.

    • 3). Pin the pattern piece on the fabric and cut out two pieces for every chair you plan to cover.

    • 4). Place the two pieces of fabric for each chair right sides together. Sew the pieces together along three sides using a 1/2 inch seam allowance, leaving the bottom open. Clip the corners then turn the cover right side out.

    • 5). Hem the bottom edge of the cover by folding the open edge under by 1 inch and pressing with a hot iron. Fold the raw edge under and press again. Finish the hem by stitching close to the edge of the opening.

    • 6). Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for the rest of the chair covers then place the finished covers on the chairs.
