The world's audio consumer is captivated with the choice they have when it comes to listening options.
Portable mp3 audio devices are allowing individuals to download and listen to personal interest podcasting anywhere they go.
Gone are the Walkmans and Discmans of the past.
Now mp3 players can be found wrapped around the arms of runners or even made a part of clothing.
Podcasting has inspired the imagination of home-based radio hosts, musicians, storytellers and business owners.
Now podcasting makes a jump to school.
Podcasting is beginning to play a role in entertaining audio lessons.
Students can listen to stories or learn tips on how to write an essay.
Podcasting is coming into its own as a study tool that kids like.
Teachers are at the forefront of the elementary podcast movement as they scour the Internet to find educational podcasts suitable for the curriculum they are using.
Many of these podcasts are free to use and were developed by educators in conjunction with broadcast professionals.
It is quite probable that grant funding has been used to develop some of these free podcasting sources for the advancement of education within schools.
Educators are even being urged to work with the children in their class to develop their own podcast that they in turn share with other educational podcasting consumers.
While podcasts are portable the truth is you can listen to any podcast through most computers, so an educational podcast could be downloaded and 'consumed' by the student using a headset at a stationary PC in a classroom setting.
One of the sites available to educators, parents and children is storynory.
com.
This site makes dozens of stories available with a decidedly British presentation.
For children in the United States this may be an interesting texture to the stories.
Children are even encouraged to make comments in the stories after listening.
Mathgrad.
com is another site that supplies math instruction by podcast free of charge to students.
Many other subjects are also available in podcasting downloads.
Children are learning at an earlier age how to navigate the Internet and use technology to its full advantage.
Unlike adults who may struggle with learning the computer children learn early on not to fear the computer.
Of course parental controls are needed, but the idea of educational podcasting should prove both ideal for teachers and parents and a treat for children who are especially curious about interacting with technology.
