These Fall Mantel Ideas Go Beyond Just Pumpkins

It's no wonder that the decorating ideas for autumn are as bountiful as a fall harvest.  Pumpkins, gourds, fall leaves, fallen nuts, and branches are plentiful, ensuring that there's no better time to decorate with nature.  These nine fall mantels certainly prove that nature's bounty is beautiful; but, despite the fact that they all pull in natural elements, they are all vastly different.  No matter your decorating style, you are likely to find ideas for your fall mantel here that will inspire you.  Which one do you like best?

1. Red and Teal Fall Mantel

Although fall decorating schemes are typically dominated by orange, yellow and brown, this mantel by Roeshel at The DIY Showoff pulls in red and teal, two opposite but complementary colors that work beautifully together for fall.  After all, is there anything more stunning than bright foliage against an azure fall sky?  The leaf painting is the star of this fall mantel, inspiring the rest of the color palette.  Tall, leafy branches give the display height, and metallic pumpkins lend a little glamour.

2. Fall Mantel with Brown Paper Bag Flowers

These large blooms crafted from brown paper bags by Home Made Modern are reminiscent of dried seed pods or even star anise.  The scale of these flowers balances out the height of the vintage window, on which a feather wreath was hung. Pumpkins, leafy branches and an acorn picture frame round out this fall mantel.

3. Fall Mantel with Amber Glass

Kate of Centsational Girl has impeccable taste.  Her traditional style always has a fresh, modern appeal, evident here on her fall mantel.  The collection of amber glass bottles is absolutely stunning, and echoes both the colors of the leaves they hold, as well as the roaring fire.  Using these colors against a mostly white and gray background gives a fall display a sophisticated, as opposed to rustic, feeling.

4. Rustic "Give Thanks" Mantel

On the other hand, rustic elements complement the feeling of fall perfectly, as portrayed in this mantel by Courtney at A Diamond in the Stuff.  This display has a decidedly vintage feel due to the old scale and burlap bunting.  The empty picture frames lend shape and presence to the display, without distracting from the mantel's message to "Give Thanks."  If you like this rustic yet refined look, find out what to look for at flea markets and yard sales so you can acquire the perfect items to accessorize all of your seasonal displays.

5. Naturally Simple Fall Mantel

Sometimes the simplest displays are the most beautiful.  This mantel by Lisa of Grey Luster Girl doesn't go overboard with pumpkins and fall colors.  It is understated yet gorgeous, mimicking more of a late fall landscape with its use of just a few natural elements and some DIY art as its centerpiece.

6. Fall Mantel with Plates

Beth at Home Stories A to Z created this mantel perfect for making the transition from fall to Halloween decor.  The use of black candles and the black and white plate display would be perfect for a spooky vignette later in the season.  But for now, the late summer bouquets of sunflowers and bright orange pumpkins lend a more cheery vibe.

7. Cozy Fall Mantel

Beth from Home Stories created an entirely different look with this cozy mantel, utilizing softer colors, a family portrait, and the urging to "Gather" spelled out on pillar candles.  In addition, the hearth rug and the curly willow branches flanking the mantel add texture.

8. Candlelit Fall Mantel

If your decorating tastes lean towards a more formal aesthetic, this candlelit mantel decked out with a black urn and obelisk, as well as a moody, expensive-looking oil painting might be more to your liking.  The white pillars could be used all year through, while the pumpkins and gourds lend this mantel its only seasonal element.

9. Peacock and Gold Fall Mantel

Last but definitely not least, how about this peacock and gold layered mantel by My Blessed Life?  If you like a little glamour in your home, this fall mantel is right for you.  The layers of gold elements and the dramatic peacock feathers give a sense of pizzazz, yet the antique stove board used as a backdrop, the vintage books, and the lantern have a vintage feel.  Somehow, all of these elements work together to create a display that says fall, but not in an obvious way.
