Is Smoking a Drug Addiction? How Can I Break Free From It?

103 7
Many people don't think that their addiction to cigarettes is a drug addiction, merely just a habit that can be broken (despite its apparent difficulty).
Thing is, that isn't the case.
Smoking is a drug addiction, but because of the way it works nobody thinks of it that way.
That's also part of the reason why most peoples' attempts at quitting don't work right: they aren't approaching it correctly.
More on that later.
Regardless, the reason why we smoke is to relieve the empty feeling that we have when we aren't smoking.
This is why, over time, we will tend to consume more and more cigarettes: our body builds a natural tolerance to cigarettes and requires more nicotine to relieve those empty feelings.
The trick to quitting smoking is to realize that cigarettes don't make you feel any better.
All they do is temporarily stop the problems that they create...
only to bring them back later on so you have to smoke again.
The reason why it's so easy to quit smoking is that as soon as you put out your last cigarette, you've broken the cycle and, while it may temporarily feel a bit odd to not have cigarettes around, you'll quickly start feeling a lot better about yourself, because your body won't feel shut down after each cigarette, waiting for the next one to pick it up again.
Instead, you'll begin to realize that non-smokers don't care about cigarettes because they don't have that emptiness to fill, not because they aren't interested in cigarettes but because they haven't smoked a cigarette and, as such, haven't gotten that empty feeling that makes you want to smoke in the first place!
