Headboards That Could Be Upholstered
- If your bed is still topped by a headboard that has long ago gone out of style, revitalize it with some upholstery. Wrap quilt batting around the headboard front and cover it with a fabric of your choice, stapling these two layers of padding to the back of the headboard. If you are placing the headboard against a wall, no finishing is required on the reverse as you will never see this part of the headboard.
- Repurpose an object that wasn’t previously a headboard with ease by upholstering it. For example, use an old wooden door as your base and upholster it. Place it on its side at the head of the bed, attaching it to the bed frame or screwing it into the wall to finish the look.
- The wood you use for your headboard doesn’t have to be high quality if you plan to upholster it. Simply cut a piece of plywood into an interesting shape sized to fit your bed, then cover it. In doing so, you can transform this perfectly ordinary wood into a perfectly delightful headboard.
- Create an uncommon headboard look by crafting a paneled headboard. Instead of one large headboard, gather squares of wood and upholster each one separately. Attach these upholstered squares to the wall atop your bed, placing them in a checkerboard pattern to craft an interesting visual addition to your bed space. To make these panels even more attractive, add buttons or other additions to create decorative dimples in the padding.
