How to Paint an Over the Range Microwave
- 1). Clean the microwave thoroughly using a de-greasing cleaner. Grease left on the surface of the microwave will interfere with the finish of the paint and cause bubbling and peeling. Rinse with clean water and allow the microwave to dry.
- 2). Sand the surface of the microwave to create some texture. You are not trying to refinish the microwave, but instead dull the finish so that the paint will have something to grab onto. Remove any rusted parts of the appliances by applying firmer pressure with the sandpaper.
- 3). Wipe off any sanding dust with a clean, damp rag.
- 4). Tape off handles, glass and any other parts of the microwave that you don't wish to paint. Be sure to protect nearby cabinets and carefully cover your range with a drop cloth to prevent spills.
- 5). Use a quality paintbrush to paint the epoxy paint into corners and crevices that can't be reached with a roller. Roll over the brush strokes with a smooth foam roller. Foam rollers are good for projects where you want as little texture as possible. Use 2 to 3 thin coats of paint for the best finish. Allow each coat to dry completely, according to package instructions, before applying another coat.
- 6). Wait 24 hours before handling or cooking with the microwave.
