How to Test a Surround Sound System
- 1). Turn on the receiver and play back a surround sound audio source, such as a DVD or Blu-Ray disc. Adjust the volume on the remote control to the preferred level for listening.
- 2). Press the "Surr" or "Surround" button on the remote control to engage the surround sound speakers.
- 3). Press the "Effect" button on the remote and use the up and down arrow keys to adjust the tonal qualities of the surround sound speakers. For example, some receivers have settings that mimic the acoustics in a concert hall or a more intimate jazz club.
- 4). Press the "Delay" button on the remote and use the up and down arrow keys to increase or decrease the time delay between the front speakers and the rear surround sound speakers. The longer the delay, the greater the sensation of movement through the room.
- 5). Press the "Test" button to check each individual speaker setting. The test function produces a white-noise sound on each speaker, moving around the room from one speaker channel to the next. Overall volume adjustments can be made to each speaker. Press the "Test" button once more to complete the sound testing.
