Corn Muffin Ingredients
- Baking your own corn muffins from scratch can be a very rewarding experience for both amateur and professional cooks alike. In order to bake a batch of tasty corn muffins, you must have the right ingredients and the right distribution of those ingredients in each muffin. While it may sound like a difficult task, finding and using the right ingredients for your project is not as hard as it may seem.
- The dry ingredients that are required to bake a batch of corn muffins include flour, cornmeal, white sugar, baking powder and salt. These ingredients are all necessary if you wish to achieve the traditional taste of corn muffins.
- Wet ingredients in a batch of corn muffins include eggs, canola oil, whole milk and melted butter. These ingredients help provide the corn muffins with a moist, yet cake-like taste.
- Begin by mixing 1 cup of cornmeal with 1 cup of flour, 1/3 cup of white sugar, 2 tsp. baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt. Mix these ingredients thoroughly in a bowl until they are evenly dispersed throughout the batch. Then, add 1 beaten egg, 1/4 cup canola oil and 1 cup whole milk. Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl until they form an evenly mixed batter. For added taste, mix in 1/4 cup of melted butter before baking. Use a spoon to put equal portions of the batter into pre-formed muffin cups.
- Bake the corn muffins at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 to 20 minutes. To test the muffins to make sure they are baked through, use a toothpick to pierce the center of a muffin. If the toothpick comes out clean, the muffins are ready. Allow approximately 30 minutes for the muffins to cool before eating them.
