How to Remove & Dissolve Glue

    • 1). Dissolve cyanoacrylate (CA) glues, like Super Glue and Krazy Glue, by saturating a cotton ball in acetone nail polish remover and rubbing the cotton ball over the glue. Acetone helps break down the chemicals in CA, dissolving and softening it so you can easily scrape it away. Acetone may stain or discolor some surfaces, so test an unseen spot before working at the glue stain to make sure your surface can handle exposure to acetone.

    • 2). Freeze and harden hot glue with an ice cube, and then peel it off of the surface.

    • 3). Remove water-based, household glue by soaking a sponge in warm, soapy water, then scrubbing at the glue. For more stubborn glue spills, you can use Goo Gone, or rubbing alcohol to dissolve and break up the adhesive properties in glue. Watch for signs that the glue is starting to soften and dissolve, then scrape away with a metal scraping tool. Wipe down the surface with warm water to clean any remaining residue before it dries and hardens again.

    • 4). Wipe up Gorilla Glue spills with soapy, warm water before they have a chance to dry. Gorilla Glue is difficult to dissolve once it dries, so your best cleanup efforts will take place beforehand. In the event that you do not get to clean up before it dries, try peeling Gorilla Glue away. If that does not work, use a fine-grit sandpaper to sand the glue stain down to nothing.

    • 5). Remove sticker adhesive from fabric and clothing by soaking the material in warm water, then washing regularly in the warmest water possible. Inspect the garment after washing to determine whether the glue has been washed away. If it has not, saturate the glue with stain remover and allow it to soak in before returning it to the wash.
