Smoking - Why Should You Quit?

103 12
If you are not feeling any of the ill effects of smoking right now, but do it simply because you enjoy it, why on earth should you quit? If you can really take it or leave it, or just see yourself as a social smoker, why not continue? If you dislike being dictated to by the government or your friends and family about quitting, then digging your heels in carrying on will show them who is really in charge of your life.
Or will it? When it comes to taking charge of our lives, we often labour under huge misconceptions.
We can easily convince ourselves that we do things because we want to, not because we have to.
Smoking is an excellent example of self delusion.
How many times have you heard (or said) I will give up when I am ready or I can quit, I just choose not to, or even:I will quit when you/they do? Expressing these sort of statements show how much you really are dependent on cigarettes.
If you were not addicted, you really would not do it.
Recognising this is a really important step to admitting how much you feel you need to keep smoking.
Denial is a hard thing to come to terms with, and something that we do not like to admit to.
If you recognise yourself as being in denial about smoking, then maybe it is time to face the facts.
Nicotine is highly addictive, dangerous and anti-social.
It is no longer cool to smoke.
You are spending your hard earned money on something that lines the pockets of the fat cat tobacco industry.
You are also inhaling a substance, voluntarily, that could kill you.
Think long and hard about giving up and improving you health, wealth, and getting control back in your life.
