Carbon Capture
The challenge regarding carbon capture as a way of dealing with carbon dioxide emissions is huge and impractical. The main reason is that unless the bi-product of burning fossil fuel is greatly reduced, too much of it is produced to make the cost of carbon capture to be a viable solution regarding the solution to global warming. Emissions must be made smaller in any case. Many scientists and researchers have offered solutions in order to back this method, but none of them are practical regarding the costs involved. Right now what has been offered as a means of dealing with carbon emissions is everything from burying it underground to making it a useful energy source. However, the question of cost has not been answered.
One of the issues is the amount of carbon dioxide that is produced on earth. One of the biggest blocks to the possibility of carbon capture is the increased production, combustion and reliance on coal for energy. Instead of the use of coal decreasing, the demands are increasing causing more acidification of our oceans and the increase of pollution in our air. We are fighting the causes of global warming by causing increases with increased coal technology. Of course, it's a lot less money to use other forms of renewable energy today and a lot cheaper to continue to allow carbon dioxide to be produced and be pumped into earth's atmosphere. We know that the volume of carbon dioxide even if it's made into a liquid form is still a gigantic amount of this bi-product. So, carbon capture turned into liquid is still not an answer. This would, after all, be an industry in itself.Even if the product of liquid carbon capture could be used and there was a market for it, the amount produced would never be used up.
It has even been suggested the by shooting carbon capture into oil wells, these wells would produce twice as much oil that normally would have been pumped. However, again there is still the carbon dioxide production that would have to be dealt with. It's like a dog chasing its own tail. The point is that we need to rely on other energy technologies in order to reduce the amount of CO2 that is still being pumped into our atmosphere. Renewables such as wind and solar must have accompanying technology to make it more reliable. They have to have better storage so that they are not over-burdening our grids because of intermittency and they have to be cheaper per KWH than fossil fuel use is today. Then we can stop using carbon dioxide producing fuel for the production of electricity.
