Do It Yourself Stamping on Patios
- 1). Remove all objects from the patio, such as tables and chairs and place them elsewhere. Rake the patio to remove stuck contaminants from its surface. Sweep the patio to remove all of the contaminants.
- 2). Put on old clothes, protective gloves and eye gear. Stir the resin in the can with a wooden stir stick until it appears evenly mixed. Dip the brush in the resin.
- 3). Apply the resin to the patio with broad strokes from the upper left corner across to the upper right corner and back again. Repeat this procedure, only first move the brush a half-inch down from the upper left corner. Continue to brush the resin onto the surface of the patio using this procedure until you reach the lower right corner.
- 4). Let the resin set for the amount of time specified in the instructions before applying another coat to the patio’s surface. Mix the thinset with a wooden stir stick until the mixture appears even. Brush four layers of thinset onto the patio in the same way that the resin was applied earlier.
- 5). Set the pins on the gauge rake to "1/4." Place the rake on the patio at its upper left corner and pull it down to the other side. Place the rack back at the top, only next to where the rack was first placed and repeat the procedure. Continue to rake the patio until you have reached the right side.
- 6). Spray the design side of the stamping plate with a nonstick spray. Stamp the surface of the patio with the stamping plate to leave an impression on the thinset. Continue to stamp the patio in an irregular pattern until you're satisfied with the way it looks. Let the thinset dry for the amount of time specified in the instructions.
- 7). Mix the concrete sealer with a wooden stir stick until the surface is even. Pour the sealer into a paint tray. Dip a paint roller into the paint try.
- 8). Place the paint roller on the patio’s upper left corner. Pull the roller toward you until the other end of the patio is reached. Return the roller to the other side of the patio and place it next to the top where you began. Repeat the procedure to roll the sealer on the patio. Continue to do this until you have completely covered the patio with sealer.
