Interactive Johnny Appleseed Games for Young Children
- To play this game, you need three different varieties of apples, pre-sliced, and a short written description of each apple type's appearance, texture and taste. Pass out one slice of each apple type to each student then read a description of one of the varieties. Ask the students to identify which slice is being described. Do this for the other two slices then tell the students which description applies to which apple type.
- AppleJuice.org is a website filled with interactive games for young children. The site also includes the story of Johnny Appleseed. Some of the games offered include a Juice Moose matching game, dot-to-dot activities, an online coloring book, apple quiz, apple crossword, apple search-a-word and AJ's apple arcade. The website also has an adult section with references to other apple activities, as well as simple recipes students can follow on their own.
- The apple salad game lets students guess the ingredients of a teacher-prepared apple salad. Each student gets a plastic bowl, spoon and a serving of apple salad. Students work in pairs to figure out the ingredients, writing down what they think is in the salad. The winners are the pairs who get all the ingredients correct. To make the apple salad, mix together chopped apples, raisins, pecans, chopped celery, 2 tablespoons mayonnaise and 1 cup whipped topping.
- Another technology activity for Johnny Appleseed is a PowerPoint presentation available at Pete's Power Point Station. This site offers eight Johnny Appleseed PowerPoint presentations for young children. It also features math activities for grades 1 through 8. There is also a section for teachers on the site.
