Georgia Child Safety Seat Rules
- Children younger than 6 must be strapped into a child seat when riding in any passenger vehicle in Georgia. This law applies to passenger vehicles on all Georgia public roads, streets and highways.
- All children are required to ride in the rear seat of the car unless the car does not have a rear seat or if the rear seats are occupied by other children.
- Taxi cabs and public transportation vehicles are exempt from child car seat requirements. School activity buses that serve children 5 and older are also exempt.
- Children that weigh 40 pounds or more are allowed to wear a lap belt when the vehicle is not equipped with functioning lap or shoulder belts or if those seat belts are being occupied by other children.
- Children that are taller than 4 feet 9 inches can wear a safety belt. Parents or guardians must be able to provide proof of the child's height.
