How to Open a Sterile Surgical Instrument Tray
- 1). Wash your hands thoroughly using warm water and soap. Wet your hands before adding soap, then rub your hands together for at least 10 minutes before rinsing completely.
- 2). Clean the top of the table, counter or tray where the sterile surgical tray will be placed, using hot water, soap and a clean cloth. Rinse the surface until all of the soap has been removed, and allow it to air dry.
- 3). Inspect the wrapping on the outside of the sterile surgical tray to make sure it is still sealed.
- 4). Remove the tray from the bag or outer packaging, and set it on the surface you have cleaned. Make sure the top flap is up and turned so that when it is opened, it will open away from your body.
- 5). Pinch the end of the first flap, getting a hold of it without touching the inside, and pull it back, laying it down on the table. Never touch the inside of the flap. Continue the same process with the other three flaps.
