    Firearms

    • In the state of Utah, regardless of whether or not you have a permit, you can't carry a gun in any area where firearms aren't allowed, such as airports, courthouses, churches, mental health facilities or a correctional facilities that rule out carrying of firearms upon the grounds. If a person is under the influence of alcohol or drugs and being tried for a crime, a concealed gun permit has no bearing on his innocence. Also, with or without a permit, handling a gun under the influence of alcohol or drugs is a crime. If a firearm can be hidden in an individual's house or workplace, it's legal to do so without a permit. However, without a permit, you can't carry a loaded gun in the streets.

      An individual can't carry a loaded weapon in his car, unless he has a permit. In that case, he must be 18 or older, legally own the car or have permission from the owner, and the weapon must not be a shotgun or rifle. It is legal for a permitted person to carry a concealed gun on his person onto a bus or train, including police officers and other security personnel. As long as a machine gun is registered and complies with all federal laws and regulations, it's legal to buy, possess or sell in the state of Utah.

    Minors and Guns

    • In Utah, it is illegal to be under 16 and go hunting with a weapon, unless you are accompanied by an adult, which means you are well within a distance for visual and verbal communication. If you are under 14 and hunting with any weapon, you must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or person 21 or over who meets approval of said parent or guardian. If you are between the age of 14 and 16 and are hunting large game with any weapon, a parent, legal guardian or an approved person over 21 must accompany you. If you are are hunting wildlife that isn't big game and are between the ages of 14 and 16, you require only the accompaniment of a person 21 or older. Children under the age of 12 are not legally allowed to hunt unless the wildlife board permits it.

      It's illegal to be 18 years old and have a dangerous weapon of any kind, unless you are accompanied by a parent or guardian or if either parent of guardian deems it OK to have it. If you're 14 or younger in possession of a dangerous weapon, you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

      In the way of handguns, it's illegal for a minor under 18 to possess, unless he is attending a hunter's safety course, practicing at a range, competing, is standing on real property with the permission of the owner and has permission of parent, guardian, or land owner to possess a handgun, is legally hunting, is at an amusement center playing a game whereby the gun is attached to the counter, or is traveling to or from either of the previously listed places.

    Knives

    • Knives in Utah can be legally carried if not concealed. Any person caught with a concealed knife or dangerous weapon is guilty of a class B misdemeanor. A dangerous weapon is anything that can be used in a manner to cause bodily harm. This is determined by the character of the instrument, the character of the wound it would make and the way the instrument would be used. A switchblade in Utah can be possessed and carried as long as it is not concealed. There are no specific blade length requirements. You could carry a sword, as long as it's not concealed and you have no intent to harm anyone.
