How to Make a Fabric Valance
- 1). Determine the height you want your valance to be, and add 1 1/4 inches. Measure the width of the window, and multiply that number by 2 1/2 to get the needed fabric width. Cut your fabric to the desired dimensions.
- 2). Cut your lining to the same dimensions as your fabric.
- 3). Pin lining to fabric with right sides together.
- 4). Sew the fabric to the lining around the edge with a 5/8 inch seam allowance. Leaving openings for the casing which you will also use to turn the valance right side out. These openings should be on each side and begin 3 inches down from the top and end 6 inches down from the top. This method gives you nice square corners.
- 5). Clip corners. Turn valance right side out, and press. Turn in the edges at the openings. Be sure no lining fabric shows on the front side.
- 6). Make casing by sewing a seam across the valance 3 inches down from the top edge of the valance (the top of your casing opening). Sew a second seam 1 1/2 inches below the first seam.
- 7). Run the curtain rod through the casing, and hang the rod.
