How to Cut Crown Molding with a Skill Saw

    • 1). Measure the length of the first side of the room to determine how long the piece of crown needs to be. Line a protractor up to the first corner and record the angle measurement. Divide that number by two to get the size of the first angle that needs to be cut.

    • 2). Set the first piece of crown on two saw horses and turn it upside down. Run a tape measure along the first piece of crown and mark with a pencil where the first cut needs to be made.

    • 3). Turn the blade of the saw to the desired angle for the first cut. If the measured corner is 90 degrees, then the first angle cut will be 45 degrees in either direction. Turn the blade to the correct angle and adjust the depth so that it is slightly more than the thickness of the molding.

    • 4). Turn on the skill saw and carefully run the blade through the mark on the molding to make the desired cut. Push down on the saw until a complete cut has been made through the piece of crown. Measure the second piece of crown, turn it upside down and mark where the cut needs to be made. Turn the blade of the saw to 45 degrees in the opposite direction and repeat the process to make the other angle cut.

    • 5). Line up the two pieces together to make sure they fit properly and continue around the room until all of the desired cuts have been made. Set the blade straight for cuts that are not around a corner and measure each angle with a protractor to determine the proper cut that needs to be made.
