Gulf Coast Community College

• Located in Panama City, and with four educational centers in the area, Gulf Coast Community College offers associate degree programs and certificates in the technical fields. Established in 1957, it was the first of the two-year community college system set up in Florida. Their program range is extensive, with sonography, paramedic training, firefighting, massage therapy, audio technology, office and medical office management among the certificate selections. Each program has a defined number of class hours and an exam to receive certification of completion. Students are admitted on an open-door policy, meaning a high school diploma or its equivalent will satisfy the entry requirement. Financial aid is available.
  
  

George Stone Technical Center

• Located in Pensacola, the George Stone Technical Center, affiliated with the State of Florida Department of Education, offers over 24 programs leading to certification in technology-based industries. Welding, web design, cosmetology, air conditioning technology, marine service technology, and carpentry and cabinet making are some of the programs offered. It is also a certified training center for the State of Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Students must be 16 years or older and can attend full- or part-time. New enrollments are accepted every nine weeks. All new admissions are given the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) to assess their abilities. High school students can dual-enroll. Fortis Institute

• The Pensacola campus of Fortis College offers seven programs leading to either an associate degree or a certificate to practice in a particular trade. Cosmetology, dental assisting, medical assisting and massage therapy are some of the courses. The school is a private, vocational career training institution. Qualified applicants must show proof of a high school diploma or its equivalent and meet with an admissions representative. Financial aid is available.
  
  

Lively Technical Center

• Tallahassee's Lively Technical Center was founded in 1937 as a vocational school dedicated to providing people with the training needed to be gainfully employed. Commercial driving, computer systems, new media technology, web programming and design, barbering, and air conditioning technical skills are just a few of the many courses offered. An aviation school is located at the Tallahassee Regional Airport. Adult students must take the TABE for academic assessment. Secondary school students can dual-enroll if they have a 2.0 grade point average and must also take the TABE test.
