    Physical

    • The Alpha A100 weighs 1 lb., 3 oz. without any lens or battery attached. Lenses vary in size and weight so the final overall weight depends on the lens. It is 5 1/4 inch wide, 3 2/4 inch high and 2 7/8 inch deep. There is a deep grip on the right-hand side for more support and stabilization while shooting photographs. The camera features a 2.5-inch, 230,000-pixel, thin-film transistor (TFT) LCD screen on the back and a built-in flash that operates at 39 feet at ISO 100.

    Technical

    • The camera sports a 10.2 megapixel, 23.6 x 15.8mm APS CCD sensor. The shutter speed range is 30 to 1/4000 seconds with 52 steps in between. It includes ISO settings at Auto, 160, 200, 400, 600, 800, and 1,600 with Lo80 and Hi200 options for more lighting versatility. Aperture settings start at -2 and stop at +2 with 1/3 step intervals in between. The focus system comprises of both manual and auto focus with the option to change the auto focus from nine different points in the viewfinder. The camera uses a NP-FM55 lithium ion rechargeable battery; the lens type is an interchangeable A mount.

    Features

    • In order to make shooting photographs simpler and more versatile, the Sony Alpha A100 has many control features that are accessible from the drop-down menu viewable on the LCD screen. These features include red-eye reduction and a histogram display, but no movie capture is available. The camera also shoots up to three frames-per-second in JPEG formats, six in the RAW format and a self timer that adjusts between 10 and two seconds. The Alpha A100 additionally has Super SteadyShot Image Stabilization to adjust for camera shake.

    Effects

    • The camera offers tools for differentiating pictures through using display options such as color and scene modes. Color modes include: black and white, standard, vivid and Adobe RGB. Users of the Alpha A100 also have access to display modes such as portrait, landscape, sunset, night view and night portrait. Photographers can choose from seven options of white balance: daylight, shade, fluorescent, cloudy, tungsten, flash and automatic.

    Memory

    • Consumers can use a compact flash drive, microdrive or Sony's signature Memory Stick PRO Duo to store their collection of photos. Tested for up to 4 GB of memory capacity, the Sony Alpha A100 can store over 5,000 pictures on a 4 GB Memory Stick PRO Duo using the lowest quality setting---2.5 megapixels, standard quality. At 10 megapixels, fine quality, the camera can save over 950 photographs. At the RAW+JPEG format, the camera can store 208 pictures.
