On May 20, 2009, Sandra Day O'Connor and Elena Kagan talk together. O'Connor, a retired United States Supreme Court Justice, and then U.S. Solicitor Genera Kagan, met at a forum, "Striking the Balance: Fair and Independent Courts in a New Era." The forum, held at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC, was part of the Sandra Day O'Connor Project on The State of the Judiciary. Just short of one year later, on May 10, 2010, President Barack Obama nominated Kagan to serve as a Supreme Court Justice.
