How to Learn Snake Kung Fu
- 1). Improve your flexibility and conditioning by stretching regularly and eating healthy food. Kung-Fu is a very fluid art that utilizes balance and flexibility, so stretching and eating nutritious meals will prepare you for beginning Kung-Fu study.
- 2). Check the phone book or online search engines to find names and addresses of Kung-Fu schools in your area. Make an appointment to visit the schools to find one that can teach you basic Kung-Fu. Order books or DVDs to learn the basics of the art, but it is a good idea to have a trained instructor if you don't have previous experience in Kung-Fu. You need to learn the basics of this martial art before you can advance to Snake style.
- 3). Study the movements and actions of snakes. Look online for videos that show how snakes move and how they strike. When you begin Snake Kung-Fu, you will use your body to emulate the fluidity of the snake's movements.
- 4). Learn the vulnerable striking points of the body with a Kung-Fu instructor. Snake style emphasizes quick strikes to soft areas such as the eyes, throat, sternum, and groin. There is also a spiritual and meditative side to the art that focuses on inner calmness so these techniques are only used when absolutely necessary.
- 5). Work further with your instructor or study video footage of Snake Kung-Fu motions and actions to deepen your understanding of the martial art. If you use DVDs or books, you will still want the evaluation of a certified instructor since the movements are very precise and difficult to self-evaluate.
- 6). Repeat the drills and forms you have learned daily, or at least four days a week, to build muscle memory. Before you know it, Snake Kung-Fu will be second-nature to you.
