How to Make a Small Handbag With A Shoulder Strap
- 1). Purchase fabric material. Choose the style of fabric that you plan to use for the outside of the handbag. Select the type of fabric that will be used for the lining of the bag. Purchase a zipper and the desired type of cord to use as the shoulder strap.
- 2). Trim the fabric. Cut the purse fabric and lining material with a measurement of 21-by-9 inches. Lay the lining on top of the fabric with the correct sides facing out.
- 3). Sew the fabric together. Stitch with a sewing machine, or hand-sew the two pieces of fabric together along the longest edges, leaving the two shorter sides open.
- 4). Fold the material in half with the inside lining on the outside, creating a 10.5-by-9-inch form. Sew the longer sides together, leaving a 1/2-inch seam on both sides.
- 5). Cut the shoulder strap material you chose to the appropriate length, leaving an inch extra on each side. Tuck each end of the strap into each end of the purse between the two pieces of fabric. Sew the strap into place on each side.
- 6). Unzip the zipper piece. Align the zipper upside down along the open end of the purse. Sew the zipper in place on each side of the purse.
- 7). Turn the purse inside out so the fabric is on the outside and the lining is inside the purse.
