Using the Match Palette Effect
Tutorial By Karen Bonaker
Now that your source images are ready to go let's get started using the new Match Palette Effect.
When you have completed applying your affects you will want to close the source image and save your new destination image. This is the image that you applied the effects from the source image to. You will notice that my image now has taken on the color aspects of the source image, the poppies. Now I am ready to begin Auto-Painting!
Now that your source images are ready to go let's get started using the new Match Palette Effect.
- To match colors across images open both the source image and the destination image. In my case the poppies are my source image and the photo of the pasture and tree is my destination image.
- Begin by selecting the destination image.
- Choose Effects menu > Tonal Control > Match Palette.
- From the source pop-up menu, the filenames for all open images appear in the pop-up menu. Select the image from which you want to apply the new color palette. In my case it would be "Wild Poppies".
- Adjust any of the following sliders:
- Color- color lets you determine how the colors from the source image blend with the colors in the destination image. At higher settings, more source color is applied. Because I wanted my photo to take on the impressionistic quality and colors, I chose a higher setting which boosted the colors dramatically.
- Variance (Color) - this setting lets you adjust the range of the source colors. Higher settings increased the number of shades used from the source image.
- Brightness- brightness lets you determine how the luminance from the source image it blends with the luminance in the destination image. Higher brightness settings pull more highlights and shadows from the source image into the destination image.
- Variance- variance means the brightness that you will achieve in this setting. Variance will let you adjust the range of highlights and shadows. Higher settings increase the contrast between the highlights and shadows.
- Move the amount slider to specify the overall intensity of the other settings. Start at 100%, and decrease the amount until you are satisfied with your results.
