How to Win at Ruzzle

Ruzzle is an interesting mix of Scrabble and Boggle, and as such, you need a mixture of strategies from both these games in order to win at Ruzzle.  But perhaps the best tip is to not fret a bad round.  Ruzzle consists of three 2-minute rounds, so just because you stink it up in the first round doesn't mean the game is over.  You still have two more rounds to make it up.

The Top Ruzzle Tips:
  • While most letters are worth a single point, some are worth more.  A few letters are even worth four points, which means they can help you rack up a higher score.
  • Borrowing from Scrabble are double-letter, double-word, triple-letter and triple-word scores.  These special tiles can be vital to winning a game.
  • Don't jump right in making words!  Take a moment at the start of the game to assess the board for these special letters.  Using that 4-point letter or that triple-word score to the max is far better than getting the jump on a few words.   Find a good starting point before going to work spelling words out.
  • Always think in terms of starting with small words and adding to them.  You can easily turn FAR into FARM into FARMS into FARMED if the combinations exist.
  • Don't get stuck in one area.  Once your word-making slows down, move to another part of the grid.  If there are no areas with higher point letters or double/triple word scores, move to the upper-left corner of the grid and start working your way across the board, moving down when you reach the end of a line.  This organized pattern will ensure you hit every area of the board.

  • Random swipes count too!  Ruzzle doesn't dock your score for wrong tries, so if you become a little stuck, you can randomly attach letters to see if they make words.   This can be a good way to juice out more words at the end of a round.
  • Memorize a bunch of small words.  "ID" may not sound like much, but it will score points.
