Vacuum Cleaner Repair Instructions
- The agitator brush is located on the underside of your vacuum. The agitator brush spins to help pick up debris from your floor. These brushes often get tangled with hair, plastic, and other items, which restrict the spinning of the brush. Check your vacuum's manual for details on how to remove the brush so that you can clear away anything that has become tangled in it. Over time, the bristles on agitator brushes can wear out, requiring that the brush be replaced. These brushes are relatively cheap, but often must be ordered from the vacuum manufacturer.
- A slipping belt is most often identified by a burning smell or even smoke coming from the vacuum. Belts are easily replaced in most vacuum cleaners. Your manual will have removal and replacement instruction, and replacement belts can be purchased at vacuum repair shops or home repair stores, or ordered directly from the manufacturer. It is a good idea to have two or three belts on hand in case you ever need to perform an emergency repair when guests are coming over. When replacing your belt, be sure to remove any debris from inside the vacuum while it's open.
- If you are experiencing decrease in suction but the vacuum is still working, you need to check the filter. Your owner's manual will guide you through cleaning or replacing the vacuum's filter. If your filter is in poor shape, a replacement can be purchased at many vacuum repair shops or directly from the manufacturer. Suction loss can also come from debris caught in the vacuum's hoses. Check them for obstructions.
- To save yourself from more frequent repairs, it is important to properly maintain your vacuum cleaner. Occasionally clean the inside of the unit, removing and cleaning the agitator brush, checking for air-flow obstructions and removing any other debris found inside the vacuum cleaner, especially near the belt. Also, check your owner's manual for any other suggested maintenance. Properly maintaining any tool will not only save you money on repairs, but will ensure that all of your tools are in the best possible working condition.
