    • 1). Put on your safety goggles and gloves.

    • 2). Measure the dimensions of the sheet of steel you will be using as the top surface of the workbench.

    • 3). Cut four pieces of square steel tubing, so that when arranged into a rectangle they will be slightly larger than the dimensions of the steel sheet.

    • 4). Cut the end of a piece of the tubing to make a 45-degree angle. Do this with all of the pieces of tubing and they will fit together perfectly when arranged into a rectangle frame.

    • 5). Use 90-degree metal clamps on the corners to hold the pieces steady.

    • 6). Weld the frame together at the corners.

    • 7). Cut a piece of steel tubing down to 35 inches in length. Repeat this process to make another three 35-inch bars. These will be the legs of the workbench.

    • 8). Use a measuring tape and a utility knife to mark a spot at the end of a leg, exactly 3/4 inch from the end. Do the same for the remaining legs.

    • 9). Drill a hole big enough to fit a bolt through at all four markings.

    • 10

Place each leg in position on the frame, just short of the corners. Use a square piece of wood as a guideline so you can achieve a 90-degree angle. Clamp the pieces into place.

    • 11

Make a mark on the frame through the hole in each leg.

    • 12

      Remove the clamp.

    • 13

Drill a hole through the frame at each of the four markings.

    • 14

Attach the two together with a bolt and nut.

    • 15

Connect each leg to the frame with a nut and bolt. Make sure to tighten well.

    • 16

Weld the sheet of steel onto the top of the frame. Your steel-top workbench is now complete and ready to use.
