    • 1). Find out what you are getting. There are many options for purchasing the kit needed for the conversion. Some may seem cheaper than others, but make sure they include everything needed to do the job correctly. The kit should include tank brackets, fuel lines and fittings, bulkhead with safety valve, fuel filter, solenoid, regulator, mixer, water lines, vapor hose, air and breather filters and instructions. The propane tank will not be included in the kit. It can be ordered separately

    • 2). Remove all the parts from the conversion kit when it arrives and make sure everything listed is included.

    • 3). Remove the gas tank from the vehicle and discard. Remove the air filter and the carburetor and lines from the engine. Unscrew the base plate from the carburetor and remove the throttle linkage. Remove the old gasket from the base plate. Scrape it loose if necessary with a small scraper. Install the new gasket and bolt the base plate onto the mixer that is included in the kit. Bolt the mixer onto the manifold.

    • 4). Attach the two outside brass fittings for the water, in and out, onto the regulator. Then set the fuel filter into the solenoid and into the regulator in the middle. Bolt the regulator onto the inner fender. Most kits do not include the bracket to do this, but a small section of L-shaped angle iron will work.

    • 5). Attach the vapor hose to the regulator and the mixer. Tighten the hose clamps down firmly with a flat tipped screwdriver. Double check fittings for any leaks and retighten or adjust the vapor hose as needed.

    • 6). Measure and cut the fuel lines. Fuel lines vary from vehicle to vehicle and the ones included in the kit will be long enough to cover many applications. Measure the short line that goes from the bulkhead to the tank. Cut it to length and press the fittings into both ends of the line. Tighten with an open ended wrench and attach the finished line to the bulkhead and the tank.

    • 7). Run the long fuel line that takes fuel from the tank to the regulator along the old fuel line. Tighten lines to prevent any linkage.

    • 8). Bolt the propane tank to the vehicle. In a pickup, for example, drill holes in the bed to match the holes in the brackets included in the kit and bolt the tank into the bed.

    • 9). Wire the solenoid to a keyed source so it starts when the ignition key is turned. Attach the throttle linkage. Install the new filters and recheck all lines, fittings and bolts.
