The Concept 2 Rowing Workout Equipment - A Review of Special Features

Way back in the early 80s, the Concept 2 rowing workout machines were launched to the world. The machines are manufactured and shipped from Vermont, and the company produced this rowing machine simply because they were so aware of the need to train in wintertime. The general objective is to make it possible to practice, or train, indoors if the rivers were all frozen and iced over. However, they deliberately wanted to make the very best rowers possible using intelligent design principles. I have the unique view to write about this since I have been a user of a Concept 2 for almost a decade. I will go further into details relating to the more important qualities of this workout equipment.

The Concept 2 company makes the Model D and E with the Model E rower being pricier. Take note, however, the Model D rower can be purchased with separate options depending on your requirements. The essential accessory that goes with each Concept 2 rowing machine is the PM3 or PM4 performance monitor. The Model D is shipped with a PM3, however you can upgrade to a PM4 at additional cost. The Model E rower is available with the PM4 monitor as standard equipment. You can expect to spend up to $350 more with the Model E rower, and the Model D rowing machine has two separate prices for the upgrades.

What is really helpful during exercising is you can use the performance monitors to keep an eye on your heart rate while exercising. The way you can do that with the pulse rate is with an additional small device that you wear across your chest area. This heart rate monitor is very low profile and made of rubber, and the strap you use with it is like spandex and is very elastic. As soon as you start rowing you will hardly notice the monitor is there. The information from the monitoring device is actually sent out to the PM3 or PM4 for processing and display.

The only thing requiredthat's needed is the resistance to simulate a rowing action, and that is accomplished with a flywheel on the front of the rower. There are no safety issues with this because it is completely enclosed in a plastic assembly. You will find a mechanical resistance adjustment for more challenging or easier rowing. There are also no concerns with noise as the overall rowing machine is virtually quiet during rowing. As you row, the fan-like flywheel emits a low level sound, and you can feel the air movement at certain angles. This moving air sound from the flywheel assembly is identical to a fan that is on at a very low speed setting. All in all, you could easily use a Concept 2 rowing exercise machine in the next room without waking others.

Either performance monitor also gives you the chance you to track a variety of data about your rowing in real time. There are sufficient data types to fulfill the needs of either competition level rowers or someone who wants a great exercise. And so it all depends on your reasons for using the rower beyond primariy goal to get fit. Most of the rowers who compete at the tertiary level use the Concept 2 to condition themselves, so they will by nature pay attention to certain data types.
