How to Decorate Standing Mirrors
- 1). Paint the frame of a standing mirror in a solid color such as antique gold, bronze or silver or paint a pattern on your frame such as country squares. If you are artistically inclined, paint freehand designs on the frame of your mirror that match your overall design style, whether it be traditional or contemporary. Alternatively, paint designs that reflect your personal interest such as flowers or an ivy vine if you enjoy gardening.
- 2). Use stencils to paint designs on your mirror frame. Obtain stencils and stencil paint at any craft store. Apply stenciling around the entire mirror frame or sporadically. Another option is to stencil designs just at the top and bottom or just on the sides of the standing mirror frame.
- 3). Put inspirational words or sayings on your mirror frame. Purchase letter stencils or entire words and quotes in stencil form and apply them to your frame. Every time you look in the mirror, you will encourage yourself with words such as "believe," "dream big" or "hope." If you struggle with low self-esteem or a negative body image, use a phrase such as "you are beautiful."
- 4). Paint a border or designs right on to the mirror itself with glass paint. Obtain leading and glass paints in the colors you prefer at a craft store. Press the self-adhesive leading on to the mirror. Fill in spaces with glass paint for a stained glass look. The paint will appear cloudy initially, but will be clear when dry.
- 5). Use contact paper to make cutout designs that you can peel and stick right on to the frame or the mirror itself. You can obtain contact paper in department or hardware stores. Draw a pattern on the contact paper and cut out your design with scissors. Peel off the backing and apply it to the mirror or frame.
