    • 1). Locate a spot outdoors that receives direct sunlight. Find a spot, such as on top of a table, where your sculpture will be undisturbed by people or animals.

    • 2). Lay a sheet of newspaper over the surface on which you wish to dry your clay. This will prevent dirt or debris from embedding in the bottom of your sculpture.

    • 3). Set your air dry clay sculpture on top of the newspaper so that as many sides as possible are exposed to the sun. You may need to use a piece of cardboard or wood to prop up your sculpture for maximum exposure.

    • 4). Leave your sculpture in the sun until the sun sets. Bring your sculpture in overnight to protect it in case of rain.

    • 5). Repeat steps 1 through 4 as necessary until your sculpture is completely dry. This may take up to three days, depending on the thickness of the piece.
