For those who love to cruise, fall and spring are very important seasons.
Why is that? Well, these two seasons are the perfect times of the year to go on a repositioning cruise.
Interest has grown in repositioning cruises as cruising in general and interest in voyages across the world has increased.
There are definitely some cruise ships that sail on the same itinerary, or at least sail in the same region, all 365 days of the year sailing the same itinerary.
But there are others that will relocate several times during the year, as the seasons change.
For example a cruise ship could have a Canada and New England itinerary for one part of the year, and them move to the Caribbean, or even to Alaska and Hawaii, for example.
Cruise ships will sell these one way trips, generally at a good discount, instead of moving the ships from one destination to the next, empty of passengers.
These trips are called repositioning cruises and have become quite popular.
They will often showcase a themes on a variety of subjects like musical theater or even wine.
Sometimes they will also feature educational or enrichment experiences such as a lecture from a popular speaker.
How do you go about finding a repositioning cruise? You will want to seek out regions that have very distinct seasons each year.
One example would be ships that spend their summers in Alaska.
They don't have a choice other than to relocate once September or October come around.
These ships will often times offer a unique itinerary, like down the coast of California, or to Hawaii or even to the Panama Canal.
The exact reverse will take place during the spring.
You can also check out transatlantic cruises because ships will reposition over from the East Coast (such as Florida or New York) across to Europe for several months of Mediterranean journeys, for example.
This type of repositioning often occurs in both fall and spring.
Other examples of repositioning journeys will travel to the Orient, the Middle East or Africa.
