Sotheby's and The Walt Disney Company recently concluded the celebration of Mickey Mouse's 75th anniversary by auctioning 75 statues of Mickey Mouse designed by popular celebrities and Disney legends.
Although the estimated $1,000,000 total sale price was not realized, $737,400 is not too shabby for 75 Mickeys!
The majority of the auctions were under $10,000, but there were several star prices and Elton John's Mickey was shining the brightest. His statue, Music Royalty topped the auction list at $62,400 (including buyer's premium). Proceeds of this auction will benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
Al Konetzni's Back to School Mickey Mouse
Konetzni was responsible for many Disney designs we know and love, including the best selling lunch box in history, the Disney School Bus lunch box shown as part of the statue.
Back to School Mickey sold for $54,000 and will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America.
Tuck Morgan's Mickey Through the Years
Another respectible price was the $25,200 received for Mickey Through the Years designed by Disney character artist Tuck Morgan. Make-A-Wish Foundation of America will benefit from this auction.
Tom Hanks and Space Mouse
Hank's Space Mouse realized $18,000 for the James Birrell Neuroblastoma Research Fund.
Ben Afflleck's Home Run Hero
Home Run Hero brought in $11,400 for The Jimmy Fund at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Kelly Ripa and Big City Mouse
$6,000 was the final price for Big City Mouse designed by Kelly Ripa. The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation benefits from this auction.
Shaquille O'Neal's Dunk Mouse
The Real Model Foundation will receive the proceeds from Dunk Mouse, which sold for $9000.
Jet Setter sold for $3,900 and will benefit the Hollywood Education and Literacy Project.
