Good Food Guide
Everyone knows that eating good food that's healthy is good for you. We know it, our body tells us, and even our doctors suggest it when we go in to see them; however this is just easier said than done. With so many people working well past lunch and dinner or even way before breakfast, picking up that fast food is just an easy way out. We're tired; we've worked all day, we don't want to cook.
There is of course a downside to all this and that is our health. The world's obesity rate has sky rocketed with the US and UK topping the scales and other countries following. But what can we do? For some people, they want to eat healthy, they really do, but whether it be working conditions or even economics, trying to put good food into our bodies is hard work. And what exactly should we be eating anyway?1. Fruits and Veggies - fruits and veggies hold so many nutrients and vitamins that our bodies need and crave that cutting them out is just a step to disaster. Not only are they healthy, but they can be combined in a variety of ways. Won't have time for breakfast? Make a smoothie the night before or get up early to make one; only takes about five minutes. Add a salad to your meal or as an appetizer.
2. Water - it goes without saying that we need water; 8 glasses a day right? Not only does this very free essential keep up hydrated, but it can also stave off some of that hunger. Try drinking a glass with a meal. Why do you think we get served water at restaurants?
3. Cut Out the Junk - a no brainer is to cut down on greasy foods, fast foods, and junk that have high caloric and sugar intakes. Does it mean you give up a trip to Mickey D's or a doughnut? You don't HAVE to, but everything should be in moderation and for some, moderation is once or twice a month or even once a year.
4. Smaller Portions - when you eat smaller, your stomach gets smaller, which means you fill up quicker. This is actually a direct violation of your mom's "clean your plate" directive, but this is where listening to your body comes in handy. Your stomach tells you when it's full, so why continue putting food in your mouth?
5. Healthy Snacks - Doritos and Cheetos aren't healthy. Tasty, yes; healthy no. So what do you do when you're craving a snack? Go the healthy route - eat fruits and veggies. The great thing is many of them are already portable and don't need to be kept in the fridge.
Eating healthy also means eating smart. You can't train your brain or stomach to suddenly like eating healthy things; don't be afraid to fall off the wagon. Just remember to get back on and hold on tighter.
