Letting Go of Anger - How to Release Anger That Has Become Toxic to You

103 4
Anger can be a useful emotion in that it can catalyze us into positive action.
For example, if a woman is angry that her husband has had yet another affair, that emotion may give her the strength and motivation to set some boundaries, leave the relationship, or otherwise protect herself from further emotional harm.
However, anger can have a flip side if it lingers on past the point that it serves a useful purpose.
When it festers and begins to do damage to the person who harbors the anger, it no longer serves a positive function and it is in the best interest of the person feeling the anger to release it.
Here are 4 steps to releasing the anger that has become toxic in your life: 1.
Allow yourself to feel the full impact of the anger.
Feel the way it affects you physically, where you hold the tension and anger.
Allow yourself to have the experience of that negative energy, then make a conscious decision to release it for your own benefit.
2.
Consider the possibility that the person who wronged you did the best he or she could with whatever life survival tools he or she has to work with.
Sadly, some people go through life unable to deal well with conflict or behaving in ways that cause harm to others.
3.
Visualize releasing that person into the Universe.
Imagine letting him or her go, releasing the responsibility to correct and punish as well.
4.
Begin imagining what possible benefits this experience might have for you down the road.
You are exactly where and who you are meant to be, right at this moment.
Embrace this concept and begin thinking about where this experience can take you.
Have you gained insight about yourself and others? You may need to repeat these steps several times to gain release and peace.
Some offenses are more serious than others.
