How to Protect a Tent Floor From a Wood Stove

    • 1). Lay a metal plate on the tent's floor where the wood stove will be placed. The plate should be at least six inches larger on each side than the wood stove.

    • 2). Lay a fire-resistant blanket on the tent floor if you don't have a metal plate. These blankets are typically made of polyester or Kevlar and fire-retardant fluid. Like the metal plate, this blanket should be at least six inches larger than the stove.

    • 3). Open a corner of the tent flap. This will allow harmful fumes to escape the tent and oxygen to enter. It will also allow cool air into the tent, which will prevent the tent from overheating and cause heat damage to the floor.

    • 4). Monitor the stove at all times for overheating. If it is too hot inside the tent, the tent's flooring could burn. If the tent does get too hot, shovel out some of the wood in the stove and place it in a snow bank or a fire pit.
