    • 1). Coat the entire surface of the wallpaper with an alkyd oil primer. This will seal off the wallpaper, prevent the paint you use from rewetting the wallpaper and keep the ink from the wallpaper from bleeding into the paint you use.

    • 2). Place drywall tape over each seam in the wallpaper.

    • 3). Apply a thin layer of drywall compound over the drywall tape. Feather it out so the tape bump isn't noticeable.

    • 4). Spread out the drywall compound approximately 20 inches around each seam. Let the compound dry according to the manufacturer's instructions. Apply a second layer of drywall compound, this time feathering it out so the layer is approximately 24 inches wide. Let the compound dry thoroughly.

    • 5). Coat the entire surface of the wall with another coat of primer.

    • 6). Paint the wall with a flat paint. Avoid semigloss paints or paints that have a sheen, as they can draw attention to the seams in the wallpaper.
