Facebook Application

• Before you can access Facebook chat on your iPod, you need to download the Facebook app. It's a free application that you can add to your iPod and then use in conjunction with Wi-Fi or your 3G connection, if available. Although you can access Facebook via the Facebook mobile website on your browser, you cannot access chat from the mobile website alone.

• Although you can use the Facebook application or the Facebook mobile site to sent messages and post on friends' Walls, chatting in real time means you can enjoy a SMS-like exchange with anyone on your Facebook friends list, with few limitations. One of the main advantages is that while the chat messages are exchanged much like text messages, you won't have to pay extra charges for texting out-of-network users.
  
  

How To

• To access Facebook chat after you've downloaded the proper application, select the Facebook app from your iPod and sign in. Then, touch the square icon button and touch "Chat." This offers a list of all of the friends you have on Facebook, with a green dot next to those who are online. Touch an online friend to open a new chat session and send messages back and forth.
  
  

Limitations

• The Facebook application is designed to allow you an authentic Facebook experience on your iPod, but it has a few limitations. For instance, when using Facebook on your computer, you can send chat messages to a friend who has gone offline during a session and the messages are simply delivered to his inbox. On the iPod Facebook application, when a friend goes offline, he disappears from the chat list and you must send a message or a post to get in touch instead.
