How to Sync Your iPod From a Backup

    • 1). Update iTunes. Before performing any type of factory restore, Apple recommends that you install the latest iTunes software. You can get the latest version from Apple's website, or you can download it directly from your Internet-enabled computer. Click "Help" on the menu bar and select "Check for Update" if using Windows; if using Mac OS X, click the Apple logo on your menu bar and select "Software Update."

    • 2). Connect your iPod to your computer. When you connect your iPod USB cable to both the iPod dock and to a PC USB port, the computer detects your iPod as an external device.

    • 3). Open iTunes. If you do not see your iPod Touch in the "Devices" column (on the left of the iTunes window), wait a few seconds. If it still does not appear, try reconnecting. You see a rectangular icon resembling an animated iPod.

    • 4). Right-click the iPod icon and select the option that reads "Restore from Backup." The software will then wipe the memory from your iPod, restore it to the factory settings and restore your saved media. The process might take several minutes to complete. Do not disconnect the iPod during the restoration process.

    • 5). Eject your iPod before disconnecting. To eject, click the triangular "Eject" symbol beside the iPod icon in iTunes.
