Caffeine is an energy and alertness boosting component found in chocolate, energy drinks coffee and tea.
Caffeine pills are also taken by some individuals to enhance their levels of energy.
However, excess caffeine content is harmful to the body as it causes various health problems.
Severe cases of caffeine overdose can even prove to be fatal for some addicts.
The following are the common symptoms of caffeine overdose.
• Twitching of muscles: Involuntary twitching of muscles for a long time either in the eye or in parts of the face indicate excess amount of caffeine in the body.
In more severe cases, people experience even seizures.
• Confusion: Sleeplessness results in fatigue and drowsiness which makes the person confused and dizzy.
In this case, consuming excess caffeine should be immediately stopped.
• Frequent Urination: Caffeine has diuretic properties as it stimulates the nervous system.
In this case, people start urinating frequently.
• Frequent Thirst: Due to frequent urination, the mouth becomes dry often and the person is constantly dehydrated.
This also means that the individual frequently needs more water than normal to quench his thirst.
One of the most important advices given to caffeine addicts is to consume at least two liters water on a daily basis in order to decaffeinate their body.
• Hallucinations: Some individuals are so addicted to coffee that they consume more than seven cups a day.
This can lead to serious side effects like hallucinations wherein the person hears or sees things that are not real.
This interferes with the daily routine making it really difficult to lead a normal life.
