Remove the Old Baseboard Register

• 1). Kneel down and examine the exterior of the baseboard register closely to locate the screw or screws that hold the faceplate on. Remove the screws by turning them counterclockwise using a screwdriver.
  
  
• 2). Put on work gloves since the inside of the metal fins sometimes have sharp edges. Grasp the front grill and pull it straight out away from the wall. Set the grill out of the way.
  
  
• 3). Look into the inside of the register where it meets the baseboard and locate the two or three screws holding it to the wall. Remove each of the screws with the screwdriver.
  
  
• 4). Grasp the register on either side and pull it up off of the floor. If you feel resistance, run a utility knife around the outside perimeter to cut through any wall paint that holds it in place.
  
  

Install the New Baseboard Register

• 1). Remove the new baseboard register from the packaging and detach the front grill by either removing the screw or pulling it off. It often helps to insert your hand inside the new register and push the grill out from the inside.
  
  
• 2). Set the main base on the floor, aligning the hole in the register bottom with the one in the floor.
  
  
• 3). Locate the screw holes in the back of the register where it meets the wall and mark them with a pencil if they don't align with the old screw holes. Set the register aside and drill 1/2-inch deep pilot holes in the locations using a drill and 1/4-inch bit.
  
  
• 4). Place the register back into position and insert the provided screws using a screwdriver.
  
  
• 5). Set the grill on the front of the register and press it into place until it snaps. If the grill attaches via screws, align the screw holes and insert the screws using a screwdriver.
