How to Anneal a Brass Trigger Guard
- 1). Secure the trigger guard in a bench vise so the least amount of metal possible is between the vise. For example, secure the small end where the screw hole that mounts the trigger guard in front of the trigger is located.
- 2). Hold the flame of the torch approximately 2 inches from the surface of the brass trigger guard. Move the flame in small circular motions over the surface of the guard until it glows a dark red color.
- 3). Turn off the torch. Grab the trigger guard with welding gloves or cast iron tongs. Open the bench vise.
- 4). Immediately submerge the hot trigger guard in the bucket of water. Allow the brass trigger guard to cool for 15 minutes. This is known as "quenching."
- 5). Remove the brass trigger guard from the water. Dry with a soft cloth. Reattach to the pistol.
