    • 1). Cut a 1-inch diameter dowel down to a 36-inch length. Make the cut at a 45 degree angle so that one end of the dowel functions as a stake.

    • 2). Paint the dowel with a coat of weatherproof stain or paint. Allow the paint to dry to the touch, then apply a second coat.

    • 3). Center the flat end of the dowel on the bottom of the saucer. Glue the dowel to the saucer with a household cement, following label instructions. Use any strong glue that is effective on both glass or porcelain and wood, and is weatherproof.

    • 4). Apply the glue to the bottom of the tea cup. Press the tea cup on top of the saucer, centering it. Allow the glue to dry completely, usually for at least 24 hours.

    • 5). Push the dowel stake 6 to 8 inches into the soil in the desired area for the bird feeder. Fill the tea cup with birdseed.
