How to Legally Transport Liquor
- 1). Research state liquor laws pertaining to transportation of personal use liquor. You can use the Internet to search state statutes or to find plain English versions of the laws on state websites such as the department of transportation or law enforcement agencies. You can also go to a law library in the state and ask the librarian to find the law.
- 2). Use the Internet to find out whether the state has a liquor licensing, regulatory or control agency. You may need to declare your transportation of liquor with the agency if it is coming from outside the state, is intended for sale in the state, or exceeds a certain amount. You may have to obtain a license or pay a fee for transporting liquor in those situations.
- 3). Abide by the state's laws when transporting liquor inside the state. Generally, a driver transporting alcohol must be over 21 years of age and cannot transport more than a certain amount unless licensed by the state. You will be subject to license suspension, fines or criminal charges if you get caught breaking a state's laws.
