How to End Crown Molding in a Room
- 1). Push one end of the crown molding flush against the wall, then push the perpendicular piece (located on the adjacent wall) flush against the first piece of molding. This is the quickest way of ending crown moulding at an inside corner, but not as attractive as other methods.
- 2). Use corner blocks for crown molding as a more attractive alternative for wall ends. These are pre-shaped corner units that you can attach to the corner of the wall (there are both inside and outside corner blocks). Once in place, you can affix the ends of each wall's crown molding plank against the sides of the corner block.
- 3). Position the plank flush against the very end of a wall that does not intersect with another, such as the place where the wall meets an open door. Paint the side of the plank the same color as the rest of the plank or the color of the wall. If there is a frame around the door, just push the end of the crown molding piece up against the frame and nail the molding in place.
- 4). Buy crown molding pieces that are pre-designed for edges and corners. Instead of straight pieces, they are shaped like the letter "L" with a corner for intersections.
- 5). Cut the ends of the crown molding at an angle with a miter saw to make the ends meet properly. You should only attempt this method if you are a carpentry professional (see "Resources" for an instructional video).
