How Do I Install Wood Floors and Make the Seams Match?
- 1). Measure the dimensions of the room you plan to install the flooring in and buy the amount of wood required. Pick any pattern and dimension of wood that appeal to you, but check on the box how the flooring is meant to be installed. Some types of wooden flooring are meant to be nailed or floating (no fixative). In case you choose one of those, search for a glue-on wooden flooring that has a similar pattern and dimension.
- 2). Mark out an area along one straight section of the wall such that it is a perfect rectangle the width of the wooden flooring. Use the tape measure for perfect measurements and the pencil for light and erasable markings.
- 3). Spread a thin layer of polyurethane over the designated area with the trowel. Be careful not to apply the polyurethane past the pencil markings or it will dry and cause unevenness.
- 4). Press the wooden floorboards onto the area so they cover it exactly. Keep all the floorboards oriented in the same direction and press them tightly together so the cracks in between are minimal.
- 5). Mark off another area of the same size right next to and oriented the same direction as the original one. Repeat steps 3 and 4. Lay down the flooring one area at a time until no more space is available where you can lay down a whole piece of flooring. At this point, your floor should be mostly covered with flooring with matching seams and gaps around the edges of the room.
- 6). Use your tape measure and pencil to measure the dimensions of flooring required to fill in the gaps around the edges of the room.
- 7). Cut the remaining pieces of flooring to the dimensions needed to fill the gaps with the circular saw and glue them into place so the seams match those of the flooring you already laid down.
